John Cooper was an accomplished artist and, in the early days, he would produce sketches for the club notice board or magazine.

Surprise A Surprise Encounter

Drawn in 1993 by David Heywood to commemorate Roger Heath's 50th walk as organiser. It depicts the oft told story of when, in 1959, the then 16 year-old Roger had decided to secretly organise his first walk then surprise everyone with the news.
Half way round, there's a shout of "What are you doing here, mate?" The couple walking along the path towards him are Les Bradbury and his wife Reta!
