Walk & Location Information

The Walk: This is a 2.7 mile walk around the Hogsmill Nature Reserve either side of the Hogsmill River. The river source is in Ewell Village fed by the springs that fill the ornamental pond at Bourne Hall and eventually reaches the Thames in Kingston. It is a flat walk with no stiles and should be reasonably dry underfoot. Suitable for a buggies. For the naturalists among you, there are many different bird and butterfly species to be found here, including kingfishers and the elusive brown and white letter hairstreak butterflies.
 
The Venue: The Eight Bells is a traditional and friendly Greene King pub which serves Sunday lunch and a range of other mains. Food is served from 12:00-21:00 and it has a garden. Parking at the front is limited so you will probably need to park in the surrounding roads.

Directions

If you are approaching Epsom from the south via the M25 you will be looking to come off at Junction 9 and take the A243 then the A24 towards Ashtead. After approximately 4.8 miles on the A24 you will reach the junction with the B2200 & A232.
Option 1: Take the B2200 for just under half a mile taking the right fork as you approach the Spring Tavern. Eight Bells is another half mile up the Kingston Road on the right.
Option 2: Continue up the A24 for just over half a mile then continue on the A240 to Kingston Road on the left.

Public Transport

The nearest station is Ewell West (TfL fare zone 6) which is served by South Western Railway from London Waterloo to Guildford (via Epsom) or Dorking. Trains run half-hourly on a Sunday and you should get off after Stoneleigh and before Epsom! The pub is a 10-15 minute walk from the station via the B2200. The 406 bus stops outside the pub between 50 (northbound) and 150m (southbound) away.
